Participation

To facilitate policy making and execution of business matters at least one member of each family is asked to attend the two parent membership meetings that are held in January and April. Parents have an obligation as members of the cooperative to participate in the school by donating 50 service hours per year or opt to pay the standard fee rate of $50 more per month. A system is in place to help families keep track of hours donated and tasks completed. Families who were previously unable to meet their service obligation will be invoiced for nonparticipation fees.

There are a number of ways to complete your service hours. You may serve on a planning committee and/or become part of the service pool (helping a classroom with projects, the attendance of parent education nights, or by picking up “jobs” on the volunteer board in the office workroom or in the Tuesday e-mails). The Serendipity Children’s Festival and the Silent Auction provide the opportunity for significant service hours. This year, for the first time, we will have a part-time volunteer coordinator in the office to help match parents with jobs.

Classroom social events such as pot lucks and parties are not considered service opportunities.
