Emily M.

Attended CMS: 2010-2013

Emily, an aspiring physician, credits her social skills, confidence, and love for different cultures to her CMS education.

Q: How long were you at CMS?

A: I started when I was two. I was with Miss Molly and Miss Yuriko. I was at CMS for three years.

Q: Where are you now?

A: I’m a Senior at Georgetown High School.

Q: Describe some of your memorable moments as a student.

A: I remember a lot from my time at CMS. I remember the playground. I really loved being with my friends and playing on the playground. That’s like a core memory of mine. I also remember the classroom environments and being able to choose what I wanted to do.

Q: Describe your transition to traditional school.

A: It was a little hard at first in Kindergarten. I wrote in cursive, and I wasn’t allowed to do that. I was also fidgety in the classroom because I couldn’t move around and do work. That was hard. At CMS, I was spoken to as an adult, but in traditional school, I was treated like a child. But I was eventually able to assimilate.

Q: How did CMS prepare you for middle school and high school?

A: It helped by giving me social skills. It helped me build relationships with people and be confident. I was able to put myself out there. I was able to talk to adults, and that helped me through my entire educational career. CMS also helped me realize what I wanted to do and what I was good at.

Q: What interests did you pursue while you were at CMS? Are you still working on those passions?

A: I’ve always been interested in other cultures since I was little. I like geography and things like that to this day.  I also like to travel and read about other places. Right now, I’m also interested in medicine. I think I will go the pre-med route in college, and hopefully, one day become a physician.

Q: How do you think your Montessori education prepared you for life?

A: Montessori made me confident and helped me build relationships. I enjoy spending time with people from different cultures.

Q: Do you have advice for CMS’ current students?

A: Just enjoy it. It’s not like traditional school. Enjoy it, and use the tools that you have been given to figure yourself out and figure out what interests you.
