Juniper Weekly Newsletter 9/8/23

My goodness what a roasty day it has been today and the entire week long! Our children have enjoyed coming back in after recess and cooling down while hearing our read alouds and listening in to our Cosmic Stories. This week the children heard about the Coming of Humans and walked the distance of a black strip that represents 4.4 billion years of time that existed before the first living organism was created. Our children began collaborating with Upper El for support in building our very own "Juniper Origin Tree" modeled after our school's cornerstone oak tree. Names and meanings tied to the names will live amongst the branches and country origins of each name will make up the root system! One of our elders is recreating the first three Great Stories into a diorama that is supported by the three gifts given to humans, hands, special love and special minds. Many of our first year and second year children worked on handwriting skills this week with a theme of using capital letters in the right places at the forefront of their work and research. You can help at home with this too :) Have them write down the grocery lists, the names of family members, perhaps a family recipe to bring in and share! Get creative!

YMCA and Music was a great hit and I am imagining the children must have been extra tired and hungry by the time they got home! Team building, collaborating, and good sportsmanship are just a few of the highlights of the YMCA so we are excited for our new friends to join us this year. Please help us out by practicing waiting their turn either in discussions or waiting their turn, this is an ongoing skill but this can be greatly supported at home. If it happens at home it happens here and with 23 children you can imagine how the help could be beneficial for us all. Please send in a written note about the history of your child's name so that our children can follow along with their research and history of name origins. I will ensure that the notes make their way into the group work! We have enjoyed hearing the stories thus far and we want to hear from more of you! Happy Friday and keep cool!
