Dear Families,
We enjoyed tasting several varieties of apples this week. Thank you for sending them in! We would love to have more tastings next week, so if your child would like to bring one, they are welcome to do so.
Children have had so much fun practicing their addition skills with the golden beads. They select a large amount of beads to bring to a rug, along with the number that corresponds to the amount, and we count to see how much everyone brought all together. It's a fun way for the children to work together. Children who have had more experience are able to lead the games. Not only do they learn the principles of adding multi-digit numbers, they learn to work cooperatively with their peers.
When children are working with fun materials such as these, it motivates the younger children to choose counting work, as they see how much fun the older children are having and they want to be a part of it. This dynamic in the Montessori environment is so amazing to observe. It is something beyond what a single adult can teach to a child and it is so valuable to the healthy development of young children.
Thank you for keeping your children home when they are ill. It really helps to keep the spread of viruses at bay.
Reminder:
No school Monday, October 9.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Kate and Laura
