Juniper Weekly Newsletter 9/1/23

What a week in Juniper! Our children were busy as can be as they happily conducted Animal Research through Animal Story lessons, created their very own miniature Timeline of Life, and The Rock Cycle work where children categorized a variety of rocks into the three categories. A sense of wonder and connections to the outside world are emerging as children bring in items found outdoors and research with elders. This week we heard the second Great Story "The Coming of Life" and watched the lessons that emerged as we studied how billions of years passed before the first human emerged! Discussions about the genus Homo lead us into how early humans possibly created music and forms of communication (SPOILER: this will lead to the third Great Story "Communication in Sign"). Our elders held a discussion about writing and performing a play for the First Year children centered around the Stone Age! I am truly excited to see this take off and grow to great heights! Today I held check-ins with our Second and Third year children about their Work Journals. set personal and attainable work goals and have established a learning plan individual to each child. Every child could benefit from handwriting and reading in some capacity each day. We appreciate your help! Shout out to Emilie for being a Reading Buddy each week! We all appreciate her!

Our children celebrated Maria Montessori's birthday by creating portraits, word problems calculating her age upon death, the age when she opened her first school and how many years the Montessori philosophy has existed for! We created a dedication table or "ofrendas" table ( offering tables in Spanish) as children brought in items that symbolized PEACE! It was a beautiful sight! Next week begins our YMCA specials and our scheduled day is every Thursday beginning next week. Send appropriate shoes for running in (no crocs or boots, running shoes are preferred). Send a hat please! Our children love wearing theirs each day :) We will be studying one of the ancient musical instruments, drums, next week! Rhythm cards, beating our drums to a rhythm card and using them for sing alongs. If you happen to have a drum that your child can bring in please send it along! We would appreciate it! Our planter box is ready to go and while we await our seedlings to take off, feel free to make a plant donation in the form of an herb. Your child may want to bring in a vegetable but our box soil has been prepped for herbs, decorational plants for now. Gracias! Happy Friday!
