This week was full of math lessons to assist the children who needed to refresh their skills in all operations, fractions, angles, polygons, word problems, decimals, and creating pie charts. It was great to see some children step up to teach their peers pursuing learning new concepts. We worked on staying on top of the work record which is difficult for some and still requires reminders and help from us. One of the community wide focuses is an ongoing practice of paraphrasing sentences so during a research, the knowledge of using one's own words can be utilized. Every day we provide a word to be looked up in a dictionary and then used in a sentence. Ask your child about: suspire, csardas, autodidact.

This week's social stories were about elephants and building long lasting friendships, wolves, having trust and relying on community members, a book about respect and Abraham Lincoln.

We had various lessons such as a story of the creation of the universe, phases of history from nomadic to urban, equal days and nights, and writing a Birthday letter to a classmate or friend. We went on a nature walk to find any living plants and talked about their needs, especially the minerals in the soil. Our community has been refreshing our favorite songs, clapping rhythms, learning chords on ukulele and even making instruments.

We finished the week by discussing our strengths and designing an island of competence in the shape of everyone's favorite food. We also talked about having goals for ourselves this year and that's when we need your help. Please talk to your children about it so they come back on Monday prepared to write those down. Be sure not to focus only on the academics but also on social and emotional skills your child can acquire.

We understand when someone is getting sick unexpectedly but we ask that you please give us a few days' notice when you have a planned appointment for your child. As we create lesson plans, we want to make sure that every child is participating in a particular group and sometimes having children out with a short notice can cause a domino effect of rearranging many lessons and regrouping children. We appreciate your understanding.

From now the photos of your child will be posted in the Redbud Facebook Group so be sure to check it out weekly!
